Artist against BSL

Since leaving my job in March and pursuing my profession in the Arts, I’ve had lots of time to try different mediums. I have found that I quite enjoy Charcoal sketching. I decided to combine my love of art with another love, pitbull rescue.

I am blessed to have two beautiful pitties, Arie and Stella. Stella recently turned four years and Arie is now about 10 months. When we first rescued Arie a few days before Valentine’s day, she was sweet, timid and very loving. Being a photographer, I, of course, needed to have beautiful pictures of the new addition. Little did I know those pictures would become an inspiration for a bigger cause.

Fast forward a few months to after leaving my job in the pharmaceutical industry. I had begun to dabble with charcoal medium and a bit of computer manipulation using Photoshop. As a photographer I had never been a fan, but as an artist this was my biggest ally. I drew my sketch and tweaked the photo here and there, adding a bit of symmetry and definition that I lacked as an amateur sketch artist. The digital tweaks also allowed me to fine tune colors to present a wide range of print options.

We are donating $5 of each print purchase to a reputable K9 rescue organization or no-kill shelter to go towards transport, vet bills, foster care, food and much more. By the time you read this, most likely the proceeds donated from each print will increase as I’m trying to explore ways to be more cost effective. In addition, my other sold work will begin to donate a portion of the proceeds also, as well as having a support system for BSL in the artistic community.

Here is the process behind the sketch.

Please visit: Wicked FairyTale or my shop on Etsy to purchase. Please indicate a designated shelter for your donation if you'd like.

Next time I will go into my design of a fantasy dragon egg sculpture.

New Techniques!

Always pushing my limits, I have been inspired to do some softer photography lately- much different from my bold colors. These images are a pastel, almost a watercolor appearance, dancing the fine line between photography and painting.

This is a white magnolia from a Magnolia Tree that was widely popular where I was from in upstate New York, but also here in Lexington, Kentucky. Here are a few more shots that have been softened.

Next time we will cover the older bolder, brighter and photos with contrast.

A little intro about us

Well hello!

This short blog is a quick introduction to who Wicked FairyTale is and what exactly we do (and why we are here!)

Wicked FairyTale is a place where we make a different kind of happily-ever-after; one where imagination has no limit, days are longer and dreams are bigger. A place where creative madness can run rampant without fear of being confined into a neat little box that everyone will like. We only care what you like.

It is here, on the outer edge of the world- the place that drops off into the unseen oblivion of endless abyss of hopes and fantasy that is locked within us- that our braver, bolder self closes our eyes and steps over the boundary of the safe, straight into the magnificent.

We do not take pictures or create art with limits. Our work unfolds from our mind quicker than we care to admit; sometimes as messy as child cook in a gourmet kitchen and others as smooth as the great masters before that have inspired us.

Wicked FairyTale is a place of unknowns; a place where our art and your dreams collide, whether it is with your wedding photography or a piece from our gift shop, or even our high resolution photos from our thousands of textures so you can create your own work.

Here everyone is welcome to wonder just what else can be done. Come back as often as you want to our little corner of the world we call home. Click here for our site
